Henson accepts ban decision

Fri, 10 Oct 2008 20:36

Welsh star Gavin Henson has accepted his club-imposed ban after he failed to attend practice after receiving a poor review for his performance against Harlequins on Sunday.

Following the Ospreys' narrow win over Quins at the Liberty Stadium Henson was called in for a match review with the teams coaches. The game itself had been the 26-year-old first in five months after suffering an ankle injury.

Despite the fact that he would obviously have been lacking match practice, coach Kevin Lock and his staff had clearly not been impressed with the Welsh international's return.

Following the discussion then, Henson admits, he reacted badly and was subsequently a no show at team training the following day.

"Having received management feedback as part of a review of the Ospreys' last home game, I reacted poorly," he said.

"I fully accept the decision and the penalty imposed and look forward to rejoining my team-mates on the field."

The suspension means that the inside centre will now miss both of the Ospreys opening Heineken Cup games against the Leicester Tigers and French club Perpignan.

"I reacted poorly and additionally took unauthorised leave to consider the matters raised," said Henson in a media statement.

"Having signed up to the Ospreys code of conduct introduced earlier this year, I was part of a disciplinary decision from the Ospreys leadership group, which consists of senior players and rugby management."
