Bayonne disappoint at home

Fri, 10 Oct 2008 23:52

Italian Super 10 team Viadana supplied, what many will consider, the surprise of the night on Friday as they came from behind to beat Top 14 club Bayonne 21-10 at the Stade Jean Dauger.

The home side led at the break thanks to a converted try from captain, and French international,  Pepito Elhorga, and a Daniel Larrechea penalty kick.

The visitors took fullback Steven Bortolussi’s try as their only reward from a tight first half but, with two more converted efforts coming in the second half, they earned a valuable win away from home.

Isy Coalala and Kaine Robertson’s efforts, both converted by centre Garry Law,  went unanswered by Bayonne, who failed to score a single point in the second half, and finally slumped to a disappointing defeat in front of an unhappy set of home fans.
