Murray lauds Montauban's efforts

Sat, 11 Oct 2008 13:41

It was nearly a famous victory for Montauban over Munster in the opening match of this season's Heineken Cup on Friday, and Scottish international Scott Murray knows it.

Murray was full of praise for his Montauban teammates after they pushed reigning Heineken Cup champions Munster all the way on their debut in the tournament, finally going down 17-19.

It took a 77th minute penalty from Ronan O'Gara to haul Munster back in front after Montauban had three times taken the lead in the match.

"It was pretty close and that's frustrating. It was pretty much an international team that we were playing," said Murray

"The Heineken Cup is a great challenge for us and the players are relishing the chance to pit themselves against the best teams in Europe.

"Our captain told us to go out there and scrap like mongrels for the ball and that's what we did. We wore our hearts on our sleeves out there," he added.
