Ikey Tigers get tec-nical

Fri, 27 Feb 2009 12:59

All the talk ahead of the 2009 Varsity Cup has been about UCT's high-class coaching staff, with the likes of Jake White, Bob Skinstad and Tim Noakes joining last year's coaches, John Dobson and Robbie Fleck, to form a pretty formidable brainstrust this season.

However, the Ikeys have been rather quiet about one of their other high-profile 'signings', with the blue-and-white hoops teaming up with Sportstec - the worldwide leader in performance analysis.

Paul Treu's SA Sevens team makes use of this fantastic analysis programme - as does Tim Noakes's SA Sports Science Institute - but other high-profile clients include Manchester United and Chelsea, two of the world's leading football clubs.

Sportstec provides powerful, user-friendly video editing software that gives the coaches the ability to design and analyse aspects of your team and opposition's performance. Visual learning is very effective in improving performance, as both coach and athlete are able to analyse, understand and strategise from a common perspective.

"Sportstec has revolutionised our approach to coaching this season," said UCT head coach John Dobson. "In the past, we would do our very best to analyse our performances, and those of the opposition, but it was never an accurate assessment...

"Now, we have the proper tool at our fingertips to pull apart every scrum, lineout and tackle - or, dare I say it, missed tackle!

"It's been a big help for me as the coach, especially during matches, but the players have also enjoyed working with SportsCode, too, and, ultimately, they're the ones who will benefit most from these outstanding programmes."
