PNG fall in final Brisbane match

The Papua New Guinea national team's 2011 World Cup preparations suffered a hiccup when they were beaten 62-5 by Queensland Premiership side Norths at Hugh Courtney Oval.
Norths' speed and combination proved too much for the spirited Pukpuks, who conceded 10 tries in a fast-paced game, the last hitout of a three match playing tour.
Norths coach Chris Roche said despite the scoreline the Eagles were forced to work hard in defence, but it was their pace and teamwork in attack that proved decisive.
"From my point of view, the most pleasing aspect of the game was Norths’ ability to play the game consistently at pace and unselfishly, with a number of tries resulting from almost the entire team handling the ball," Roche said.
"The other satisfying feature was Norths’ defence - limiting PNG to only one try, despite the fact that they had a number of dangerous runners and had us stretched on a number of occasions."
The Pukpuks, who are preparing for the 2009 Oceania Cup as part of the qualification process for NZ in 2011, had been undefeated in their previous two matches against Redland Bay and a Sunshine Coast Stingrays President’s XV.
