Veteran tighthead prop Ruan Vermeulen has, after successful negations with the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd, decided to hang up his boots.
Vermeulen has been struggling with numerous injuries during the last couple of months and at the end he says it was a business decision to call it a day.
"I was unlucky with injuries during the latter part of my career, but playing for the Blue Bulls has been an absolute honour.
"I will always cherish the memory of winning the Currie Cup in 2002 after we struggled to get our hands on the trophy for a number of years and I must add that 2003's final was just as special.
"With the Boks away on World Cup duty we met the Sharks in the final and I remembered that we blew them away on that day."
Vermeulen, who has played in more than 110 matches in the light blue jersey started to play tighthead prop in 2007 and being part of the squad that lifted the Super 14 trophy counts among his many highlights.
"I would like to use this opportunity to thank all the Blue Bull fans for their loyal support since I made my debut for the team in 2001.
"It has been a great journey and something that will stay with me for the rest of my life."
