Richie Rees dreaming of his first start

Mon, 08 Feb 2010 13:28

The Blues scrumhalf made his international debut at the weekend when he came off the bench in the second half in Wales' 30-17 defeat by England at Twickenham.

The 26-year-old may well replace Gareth Cooper in the No. 9 jersey, after a good showing from the bench on Saturday.

"To start at the Millennium Stadium would be a dream come true," Rees told the South Wales Echo.

"I would love to start next week, but we will have to see how training goes.

"Wales put a massive emphasis on the training environment so if you perform there hopefully you can get that start.

"But I thought Gareth played quite well against England and we have Martin Roberts coming back into training."

Despite the defeat Rees is really pleased with his debut in Welsh colors.

"It was everything I thought it would be and more," said Rees.

"It would have been nice to start, but it was not to be and you just want to be involved.

"On a personal note, it was great and we will see how things go from here.

"It was always going to be a step up from regional rugby and it leaves you wanting more.

"Apart from the loss, things went quite well personally."

Wales will name their team to face Scotland on Tuesday after assessing the fitness of star duo Gethin Jenkins and Matthew Rees.
