France lose big wing

Tue, 09 Feb 2010 11:46

France's big left wing Aurélien Rougerie has withdrawn from the French team to play Ireland in a vital clash on Saturday.

In his place, Mark Lièvremont has called up Alexis Palisson, a 22-year-old from Brive, who made his debut for France in Australia in 2008.

Rougerie's injuries were almost self-inflicted. At the kick-off against Scotland he tackled the receiver heavily and was hurt. Soon afterwards he made another heavy tackle and was forced to leave the field. He underwent tests on Monday evening and will be out of action for two to three weeks, though the injury to his neck is regarded as less serious than initially thought.
