France's problems escalate

Tue, 09 Feb 2010 13:47

As France prepare for their vital match against Ireland at Stade de France on Saturday, they have suffered two more setbacks with the withdrawal through injury of prop Luc Ducalcon who came on as a substitute against Scotland and was injured, and young Ben Fall.

Jean-Baptiste Poux of Toulouse replaces Ducalcon in the squad and Julien Malzieu replaces Fall.

26-year-old Ducalcon plays for Castres And was making his debut in the French side after previously playing for France A. Poux is 30, a veteran of two World Cups and 23 Tests since his debut in 2001.

Malzieu, a big wing who is better on the left, is 26 and plays for Clermont Auvergne. He has played just once for France - against Scotland in 2008 when he scored a try.

This comes after the withdrawal of Aurélien Rougerie and a call-up for Alexis Palisson

The revised French squad:

Forwards: Thomas Domingo (Clermont), Jean-Baptiste Poux (Toulouse), Sylvain Marconnet (Stade Français), Nicolas Mas (Perpignan), Williams Servat (Toulouse), Dimitri Szarzewski (Stade Français), Pascal Papé (Stade Français), Lionel Nallet (Racing-Métro), Julien Pierre (Clermont), Julien Bonnaire (Clermont), Thierry Dusautoir (Toulouse), Imanol Harinordoquy (Biarritz), Fulgence Ouedraogo (Montpellier)

Backs: Morgan Parra (Clermont), François Trinh-Duc (Montpellier), Frédéric Michalak (Toulouse), Mathieu Bastareaud (Stade Français), Yannick Jauzion (Toulouse), David Marty (Perpignan), Vincent Clerc (Toulouse), Alexis Palisson (Brive), Julien Malzieu (Bayonne), Clément Poitrenaud (Toulouse)
