A serious charge against Le Corvec

Tue, 09 Mar 2010 23:00

After being cited, Grégory Le Corvec of Perpignan has been suspended as a cautionary measure until he appears before the Ligue Nationale de Rugby, the body which organises professional rugby in France.

Le Corvec's hearing will be on 24 March 2010.

The citing arises from what the tough loose forwqard did when Perpignan lost to Clermont Auvergne in Montferrand last Saturday. He stands accused of attacking an opponent in the region of Jamie Cudmore's eyes. It is a most serious charge as David Attoub and Julien Dupuy know.

The incident happened in the 53 minute of the match. Le Corvec, who has the reputation of being a hard man, admits putting his hand into Cudmore's fact because the Canadian was offside and needed encouragement to get out of the way. Le Corvec denies any contact with Cudmore's eyes. For one thing Cudmore wears contact lenses which would have been affected by any eye-gouging.
