Fra v Ita: Italian player ratings
Sun, 14 Mar 2010 20:01
France are just one step away from their first Six Nations Grand Slam in six years, after they demolished the Italians 46-20 at Stade de France, Paris, on Sunday.
In a performance of sublime skills and raw power, the French scored six tries to two.
Jan de Koning rates the Italian players!
15 Luke McLean:
Too many aimless kicks.
4/10
14 Andrea Masi:
Good scrambling defence, but few chances on attack.
6/10
13 Gonzalo Canale:
A few decent clearing kicks, but his ball-control let him down.
5/10
12 Gonzalo Garcia:
Strong, as always, with ball in hand, but silly yellow card.
5/10
11 Mirco Bergamasco:
He certainly doesn't look so good if he is reduced to a defensive role.
5/10
10 Craig Gower:
Threw silly early pass and then later tried to create space, but not enough possession.
5/10
9 Tito Tebaldi:
He was not getting any clean ball and subbed early.
3/10
8 Alessandro Zanni:
One great run, but not many opportunities with ball in hand. However, a real workhorse and one of the best for Italy on the day.
7/10
7 Mauro Bergamasco:
Worked very hard, but mostly on defence.
6/10
6 Josh Sole:
Another hard-working loose forward.
6/10
5 Marco Bortolami:
His line-out work not secure enough and mostly ineffective in general play.
4/10
4 Quintin Geldenhuys:
Had his line-out ball stolen easily and made no
ground with the ball in hand.
4/10
3 Martin Castrogiovanni:
Gets his bulky frame around the park and made plenty of tackles - more than most of his more fleet-footed backs. One of Italy's best.
7/10
2 Leonardo Ghiraldini (captain):
He tried, but was overshadowed in a game the French dominated.
5/10
1 Salvatore Perugini:
Was anonymous for most of the game.
4/10
Replacements:
16 Fabio Ongaro (on for Ghiraldini 68th min):
Not enough time to be rated.
17 Matias Aguero (on for Castrogiovanni 68th min):
Not enough time to be rated.
18 Carlo Antonio Del Fava (on for Bortolami in the 55th min):
Decent run for Italy's try, but the game was long gone by then.
5/10
19 Paul Derbyshire:
Not used.
20 Pablo Canavosio (on for Tebaldi in 31st min):
Great snipe and attack for Italy's first real break in the second half and then an even better run for his own try. Made a real impact.
7/10
21 Riccardo Bocchino (on for Gower 75th min):
Not enough time to be rated.
22 Kaine Robertson (on for Garcia, blood bin, 8th min):
Not enough time to be rated.
