Stephen Jones could be axed

Tue, 16 Mar 2010 11:01

Wales coach Warren Gatland is expected to make several changes to his starting XV for the match against Italy with underperforming players being given the axe.

There could be recalls on the cards for British and Irish Lions trio Gethin Jenkins, Mike Phillips and Ryan Jones who have all recovered from injuries.

One player who may find his place in the side under pressure is flyhalf Stephen Jones who could be replaced at pivot by either James Hook or Ospreys playmaker Dan Biggar.

Stephen Jones is confident that there will be some changes made in an effort to salvage some pride from the campaign.

"I am sure there will be changes made," Jones told Sportinglife.com.

"We didn't play to our potential - the performance against Ireland wasn't good enough. We were below-par in certain areas.

"The coaches are hugely disappointed, as are the players. It is about us putting some pride back in the jersey."
