Century up for Falcons' Wilson

Thu, 18 Mar 2010 11:11

Poised to become a Falcons centurion, flank Brent Wilson insists his Newcastle side are fully charged and ready to rumble as they prepare for a hectic schedule of Guinness Premiership matches.

With Gloucester's LV= Cup progress denying the Falcons a game this coming weekend, the revised fixture calendar sees Wilson's side facing three matches games in just seven days, including two trips to the capital.

"It's nothing new to us to play three games inside a week because we've done it a few times now, but it's a tough ask especially with two of the games being away in London," said Wilson.

"Had it been two home games and one away match then it would have been a bit easier with a lot less travelling, but we're just getting on with it and working hard in training to be ready for that week.

"Not having a game for two weekends means the boys are nice and fresh, we've got a lot of niggles out of the system and the attitude in training has been absolutely spot on.

"We were given last week off by the coaches, everyone has come back reinvigorated and really looking to attack this next chunk of games. Sometimes you just need to get away from rugby for a few days to focus your mind on something else, and what it means is that when you come back you have that real appetite for the game again. You can definitely see it this week, the boys are buzzing and we just can't wait to get back into it."

Fully aware of the need for results during their hectic upcoming schedule, he said: "We've been starting to play better as a team, we're producing some good rugby and we feel like we're solving a lot of the problems we've encountered earlier in the season.

"It's definitely not a case of just trying to avoid relegation. We're all aware of how tight it is down at that bottom part of the table but we're confident as a group, and we believe that a few good wins can get us right back up there competing higher up the table."
