Warriors to sign Cheetahs' scrumhalf?

Thu, 18 Mar 2010 12:23

The Worcester Warriors have been linked with Cheetahs scrumhalf Tewis de Bruyn to add some experience in the No. 9 jersey.

Speculation has mounted that Warriors boss Mike Ruddock will make a move for the South African, De Bruyn,  who is currently playing in the Super 14 for the Cheetahs.

Ruddock will need a new scrumhalf for next season, as his only experienced No. 9, Ryan Powell, has already announced that he will be departing at the end of the season.

While Ruddock admitted to knowing about the nuggety South African, but he neither confirmed nor denied that a deal could be immanent.

"I do know about him [De Bruyn] as I have seen him play in the Super 14. However, I'm not going to rush into any decision on the number nine position at the moment," Ruddock told the Worcester News.

"We will just focus our attention on winning the next few games before we start turning towards that. We are a little bit inexperienced at scrumhalf, but it is still a bit early to look at it."

Young academy star Jonny Arr is the current first-choice at Sixways and his promotion into a regular starting berth will have played a big part in Powell's decision to move on at the end of the season.
