Grooming a new breed of Lions: Coach John Mitchell. (c) Gallo

Lions coach John Mitchell has made only one change to the side that beat Western Province 46-28 last weekend for Saturday's vital Currie Cup match against Griquas in Johannesburg.

Lock George Earle has slight concussion and has been replaced in the No.4 jersey by Johan Snyman who was so outstanding against the Leopards two weeks ago.

The rest of the side will be hoping to emulate their superb play that has breathed some much-needed life into Lions rugby, with Mitchell's young guns not afraid to mix things up with the country's big names.

In recent weeks, the Lions - for so long the whipping boys of SA's so-called 'bigger unions' - have beaten the Cheetahs, the Leopards, the Pumas and Western Province to force their way into play-off contention.

Griquas are a single log point behind the Lions and a win for either team is extremely important with five teams bunched within four points on the log.

The losing side may find themselves out of contention for a semifinal place as things continue to heat up in the Currie Cup.
