Top 14 wrap - Round 21
Sun, 11 May 2008 23:37
See how the mighty are fallen! The biggest fall this week was that of Toulouse to the delight of lovely Montpellier. But it was not a fall that is likely to affect the play-offs - not yet anyway.
Toulouse did not have their full team out but then no side is able to put out a full side as injuries take their toll. In any case the team they put in the field against Montpellier was a powerful one.
Aluta continua. The struggle for fourth place continues, though with a different contender. On Friday night Biarritz lost at home to Clermont Auvergne which gave Perpignan a golden chance to put daylight between themselves and the Basques but then the Catalans went down to Montauban, not getting even a bonus point. Castres are now the bigger threat as their big win over Brive moves them above Biarritz.
No wonder Serge Betsen has plans for changes for next season - new players, new coaches and a renovated stadium.
The next few weeks are going to be fascinating.

Match details
Clermont Auvergne vs Biarritz, 16-11
Lots of kicking, a bantamweight fight between the two scrumhalves and a total of three tries, one a fortunate intervention of the padding on the goal posts.
They were two top teams but not really a great advertisement for rugby football.
