Blues wing signs for Hurricanes

Tue, 13 May 2008 08:22

Blues wing David Smith has signed a two-year contract to play for the Hurricanes and the Wellington provincial side for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

He will join his new province after this year's Air New Zealand Cup.

The 22-year-old was a draft player in the Hurricanes Super 14 squad last year, making 12 appearances for the franchise and scoring one try.

"David [Smith] very much enjoyed his time here in Wellington last year and we are delighted that he has decided to join us," said Wellington Rugby chief executive Greg Peters told the New Zealand Press Association (NZPA).

"He is one of the most exciting players in New Zealand rugby and will be a huge asset to both Wellington and the Hurricanes," added Peters.

Smith's Blues team meet the Hurricanes on Friday in a crucial Super 14 match in Auckland which will go some way to determining the semifinalists.
