Player ratings: Pruned roses

In a match which had it all – big hits, huge scrums, temper tantrums, shoulder charges and poor refereeing decisions – the occasion proved too much for the English Roses as they were sent packing by a dominant Australia.

Player ratings: Pruned rosesEngland were absolutely dominated at scrum time but looked to have revived their hopes of a second half comeback when wing Anthony Watson grabbed a try but it proved to merely be a consolation as their World Cup dream came to an end.

Tauriq Ebrahim rates England's players!

15 Mike Brown

His first half may have had a few errors but his attacking prowess was simply magnificent to watch.

7/10

14 Anthony Watson

Posed a massive threat on attack and grabbed a try at a crucial stage in the match but it proved to be a mere consolation.

7/10

13 Jonathan Joseph

Broke the line on numerous occasions and looked very dangerous with ball in hand.

8/10

12 Brad Barritt

May have made all of his tackles but provided nothing on attack.

4/10

11 Jonny May

A fairly sedate game by his standards before being forced off the field with a knee injury.

5/10

10 Owen Farrell

Deserved his yellow card for an off-the-ball shoulder charge on Matt Giteau and did not quite get his backline firing consistently throughout the encounter.

3/10

9 Ben Youngs

Looked out of his depth and could not provide the ideal link between the his forwards and backline.

3/10

Player ratings: Pruned roses8 Ben Morgan

Workman-like effort by the big No.8 with strong carries and an above-average day in defence.

7/10

7 Chris Robshaw (captain)

Could not lead his team to victory as scraped through the match during the bare minimum.

4/10

6 Tom Wood

Was the better of the flanks in all aspects of the match as he looked to spark England into life at the breakdowns.

6/10

5 Geoff Parling

Made no impact at all with ball-in-hand and his defensive work was fairly average.

3/10

4 Joe Launchbury

Was the heartbeat of England's forward pack and wore his heart on his sleeve in every facet of the game.

8/10

Player ratings: Pruned roses3 Dan Cole

Bore the brunt of a dominant Wallabies scrum and was failed to get himself involved during his time on the park.

2/10

2 Tom Youngs

Racked up the miles with some big carries but his defensive work was exceptional, despite not having the best day at the office at scrum time.

5/10

1 Joe Marler

Offered absolutely nothing in attack and found himself completely dominated at scrum time.

1/10

Replacements:

16 Rob Webber (on for T Youngs, 61 mins)

Provided a good anchor at scrum time and ensured a solid platform for their attempt at a late comeback.

6/10

17 Mako Vunipola (on for Marler, 50 mins)

Made an immediate impact at scrum time but that is pretty much all he did during his 30 minutes on the park.

5/10

18 Kieran Brookes (on for Coles, 54 mins)

Did not see much of the ball but did his defensive duties.

4/10

19 George Kruis (on for Launchbury, 69 mins)

Not enough time to be rated.

20 Nick Easter (on for B Morgan, 57 mins)

Had big shoes to fill and performed well in defence, although his attacking game was few and far between.

4/10

21 Richard Wigglesworth (on for B Youngs, 50 mins)

Massive impact off the bench to revive his side and certainly outshone the starting scrumhalf.

6/10

22 George Ford (on for May, 40 mins)

Had plenty of time to make a difference and did it to a certain extent on attack but just could not spark things properly.

6/10

23 Sam Burgess (on for Joseph, 65 mins)

Would have gotten a better rating if he had stayed off the field, as the only thing he did was a high tackle to Michael Hooper which should have seen him being carded.
