Player Ratings: Down and out

Australia were handed their second successive defeat by a Northern Hemisphere side when they went down 17-26 to England at Twickenham.

Despite the best efforts of flyhalf Bernard Foley to keep the Wallabies in the match, he was substituted early in the second half, having just converted his own try.

Tauriq Ebrahim rates the Australian players!

15 Israel Folau

Made a mistake which led to an England try but gave his boots plenty of work to do with numerous attacks.

6/10

14 Henry Speight

Had a good game with plenty of metres gained thanks to strong carries and got the better of his opposite number.

6/10

13 Adam Ashley-Cooper

A demon-like effort from the midfield. Combined well with Toomua and looked extremely dangerous with every touch of the ball.

9/10

12 Matt Toomua

Broke through tackles with ease and did the hard work on defence to keep the Wallabies fight alive.

8/10

11 Rob Horne

Helped set-up the Foley try before suffering a nasty clash of heads with Barritt but soldiered on.

6/10

10 Bernard Foley

Had a great game and proving to be mastering the art of scoring tries. Must be disappointed to be substituted so early.

8/10

9 Nick Phipps

Controlled the pace of the game nicely with great distribution and service from the base.

7/10

8 Ben McCalman

Attempted to get the Wallabies in the game but was outshone by his opposite number.

6/10

7 Michael Hooper

Gutsy and feisty as is expected when this man takes to the field, unfortunately, it was nowhere near his usually high standards.

6/10

6 Sean McMahon

It wasn't the greatest game but he did his bit at the breakdown and in defence.

5/10

5 Rob Simmons

Had a fairly quiet game before being substituted at halftime.

4/10

4 Sam Carter

Had a tough day at the office and was forced into plenty of defensive work.

6/10

3 Sekope Kepu

Attempted to make metres with a few carries but was stopped in his tracks.

5/10

2 Saia Fainga'a

Nothing spectacular and was outshone in the set-pieces.

4/10

1 James Slipper

Made his fair share of tackles but was absolutely dominated in the scrum.

4/10

Replacements:

16 James Hanson (On for Fainga'a, 72nd min)

Not enough time to be rated.

17 Benn Robinson (On for Slipper, 67th min)

Not enough time to be rated.

18 Ben Alexander (On for Kepu, 52nd min)

Had a fairly decent outing but his over-enthusiam led to two penalties being conceded.

4/10

19 Will Skelton (On for McMahon, 58th min)

Scored a try with his first touch of the match but that was about it from the big man.

6/10

20 Luke Jones (On for Simmons, 41st min)

Conceded two penalties in his time on the park but went about fairly unnoticed.

4/10

21 Nic White (On for Phipps, 50th minute)

Attempted to spark a late revival by assisting in the Skelton try but his best efforts were not enough.

6/10

22 Quade Cooper (On for Foley, 46th min)

Did his level best to get the backline to fire consistently but to no avail.

6/10

23 Kurtley Beale (On for Speight, 63rd min)

Barely noticed he was on the field.

4/10
