Large owen farrell v all blacks 2017 800

OPINION: The Lions almost ruined a perfect opportunity to shut out the All Blacks when their lack of discipline saw them trailing against 14 men.

However, they showed immense character to come back from behind and clinch the second Test. The Lions can be very proud of their performance and this victory spices things up for the final test in Auckland. Can the Lions do it? That is the question.

Jeremy Papier rates the British and Irish Lions players:

15 Liam Williams:
He was good under the high ball and he had a few runs and kicked well.
7/10

14 Anthony Watson:
Excellent performance by the wing. He kept on looking for work. Had a few good runs and chased well after kicks.
8/10

13 Jonathan Davies:
Good strong running by the Lions' main ball carrier and solid defensive work in the midfield.
7/10

12 Owen Farrell:
Excellent kicking by the flyhalf. He missed one place kick, but he had a good performance.
8/10

11 Elliot Daly:
Worked hard even though he had limited opportunities. Good under the high ball.
7/10

10 Jonathan Sexton:
Showed his class and had a good performance. He took control of the match. His combination with Farrell worked well as they swapped the pivot position a few times.
8/10

9 Conor Murray:
Consistently shows how good he is. Scored the 68th minute try that might have changed the outcome of the game.
7/10

8 Taulupe Faletau:
Perhaps the best performer on the tour thus far. Had an excellent night out. He scored a brilliant try on the wing in the 60th minute.
8/10

7 Sean O'Brien:
Strong carries and good work on defence. Earned the No.7 jersey yet again for the final Test.
7/10

6 Sam Warburton:
Good defensive work by the captain and he somehow managed to get his players back together in the final quarter of the game.
6/10

5 Alun Wyn Jones:
A strong performance by the Welshman. He worked hard off the ball.
7/10

4 Maro Itoje:
Excellent performance by the big man. He was all over the place and never stopped working - relentless in his ways. The only criticism one could have is the fact that he lurked on the offside line and got caught out a few times.
8/10

3 Tadhg Furlong:
Strong performance and good carries early on. Scrums were contested evenly.
7/10

2 Jamie George:
Solid performance by the hooker. He found his men at the line-out and had a few good carries. His run in the 68th minute set up Murray's try.
7/10

1 Mako Vunipola:
Worked hard but he was a bit of a penalty magnet. But very good work rate nonetheless.
5/10
