Kirkwood win merrily

Wed, 25 Jul 2007 08:28

This past weekend Kirkwood played Paul Sauer of Kareedouw at Kirkwood sports fields and won well. It was a very good match and very tight in the beginning. Half way through the first halc the flyhalc of Kirkwood, Kenny Jacobs, burst through the defence for a easy try. He converted his own try. The half-time score remained 7-0 to Kirkwood. In the second half, Kirkwood started to lift the tempo and within 10 minutes they were 19-0 up with tries by the tighthead, Jacques Ehlers (who is still in Grade 10) and pacey winger, Grant Sauls. Jacobs converted one of them. Late in the second half, fullback, Leo Vermaak broke through the defence and unselfishly offloaded to right wing Mayo Bonga. Jacobs converted. The final score was 24-0 to Kirkwood. Not all credit must go to Kirkwood. Paul Sauer's defence were really good, they were very competitive and they were good sportmen. Kirkwood's handling was outstanding espesially after such a long break from rugby! Scorers For Kirkwood Tries: Kenny Jacobs, Jacques Ehlers, Grant Sauls, Mayo Bonga Cons: Kenny Jacobs 2 Christiaan Beukes
