There were some big matches and there were some derby matches and there was one horrible match amongst those which we shall report on. There was the big Interschools in Paarl which Gimmies won for the fourth year in a row. Centre Johann Sadie scored the only try of the match. For the second time this year Michaelhouse had a big win over Hilton in the stylish Midlands derby. There was a derby in Queenstown and ancient rivalries in Grahamstown and East London. Stellenberg won a try-less derby in Durbanville. The horrible match happened on the Piley Rees field at Bishops when Bishops posted their highest score since 1861. What value there can possibly be in such a mismatch beggars thought - and it included a penalty try and a yellow card as if what was happening on the ancient ground could be construed as a normal rugby match.
