Geldenhuys to ref final

Fri, 18 Jun 2010 13:21

SA's next generation?

Stefan Geldenhuys of Laerskool Brits will referee the final match at the Under-13 Craven Week between the Blue Bulls and Western Province at the Botanics in cold Graaff-Reinet on Friday, 18 June.

For the first time all the referees at the Under-13 Craven week were primary school teachers and the change has met with approval.

At the week's closing dinner on Thursday with the coaches, players and administrators, the referees announced their top four in order of merit:
1. Stefan Geldenhuys (Leopards)
2. Pieter Janse van Vuuren (Free State)
3. Hentie Nel (Leopards)
4. Sakkie Meyer (Free State).

At the dinner the referees also made an award to the team that was most disciplined and most cooperative - the team that best embodies the Craven Week spirit. The award went to the Border Bulldogs.

It has been a cold week in Graaff-Reinet, but the referees were a happy band, including snow fights in their activities.
