The South African Academy Week Started up in Vryheid near the Drakensberg with a cold (2°C) beginning which warmed up into a beautiful, sunny day but with the warning of greater cold to come.

The venues for the 13 matches a day are shared by Hoërskool Pionier and Vryheid High School.
