Itembelihle win Top 16

Itembelihle Comprehensive School won the Dennis Botha Top 16 Competition for the third year running. This competition is contested by the top black schools in the Eastern Cape. It was held in East London on 2 October and named for the great Springbok captain, Dennis Botha whose nickname was Bokwe.

With the season having drawn to a close we can again look back on another successful year of schoolboy rugby. There were many epic encounters, talented players were unearthed in abundance and Craven Week was a resounding success, although the SA Schools selectors were again left with “egg on their face” as it were.
Grey no longer play College

The Interschools between Grey College of Bloemfontein and Maritzburg College of Pietermaritzburg will not be contested next year. Maritzburg College decided that they want to withdraw from the Interschools between the two teams.

The Leopards Rugby Union's Coaching Centers will end their rugby playing season with a Coaching Center Festival in Potchefstroom on Saturday. It is expected that 1 580 boys and girls will take part in the festival at Olën Park and Johan du Rand Stadium.

Louis Botha champions of the Irawa-league

Louis Botha was crowned champions of the Irawa-league of the Kovsie Championship when they defeated Hennenman 20-10 in the final at Shimlapark in Bloemfontein. The team from Bloemfontein had to work hard to beat the visitors from the Northern Free State in a tightly contested match.

In the curtainraiser to the Tri-Nations Test between South Africa and Australia, the South African Academy side thumped the South African Schools side 41-19 at the Absa Stadium on a hot Durban afternoon. They scored six tries to three.
