It's Red versus Blue in Kroonstad

Wed, 23 Jul 2008 23:29

This weekend the FNB Classic Clash focus shifts to the Free State's Central region, and more particularly Kroonstad - where two Northern Free State rivals, Kroonstad AHS (Reds) and Kroonstad Highschool (Blues) face each other on Saturday, July 26.

To add some spice to the occasion, the referee will be Burger Geldenhuys, a past Springbok and Northern Transvaal player.

The teams, as all Classic Clashes are, have build up a fierce rivalry - with some epic battles over the years.

In encounters since 2002 Kroonstad AHS (Reds) dominated with five wins, three losses and a draw.

This year, however, it seems to be Kroonstad High's turn - as they play with three Craven Week players and six Northern Free State Academy players, compared to AHS's side who has just one Craven Week representative and one Academy player.

This is set to be the highlight of schoolboy rugby for this weekend. If you are in the area and want to see a great game, this is the place to be. If not you can always check our results sheet to see how the game went down.

The teams are as follows:

Kroonstad AHS (Reds): 15 Ludwig Erasmus, 14 Andries Kruger, 13 Freddie Viviers, 12 Chris Martin, 11 Dirkie Coetzee, 10 Lukas Boucher, 9 Richard Webber, 8 Cloete Wessels, 7 Benson Brink, 6 Luan Kleingeld, 5 Pieter Griesel, 4 Jan-Reint Coetzee, 3 Rudi Britz (Vice captain), 2 Lenro Vergottini, 1 Louwtjie Smit.
Replacements: 16 Pieter van der Berg, 17 Janrè van der Berg, 18 Johan Combrinck, 19 Henrico Schoeman, 20 Luan Janse van Rensburg, 21 Charl Blom, 22 Arno de Wet.
