Hoërskool Voortrekker of Bethlehem in the beautiful Eastern Free State had a great win over neighbours Witteberg, again showing their power in the Griffons Schools League.

Riebeeckstad had a big 43-5 victory over Hoërskool Hentie Cilliers. The Riebeeckstad coach, Johan Bester, will certainly be walking around with a broad smile.

Thanks to the reliable boot of  Ludwig Erasmus, Kroonstad will be decked out in red till next year's Derby Week. The AHS fullback kicked eight penalty goals in the Rooiskool's 31-10 victory over Hoërskool Kroonstad, the Blouskool.  At half-time Rooiskool led 9-7.

Centre Chris Martin scored his team's only try. He and his fellow centre Freddie Viviers gave the Blouskool lots of trouble in the midfield. Apart from Erasmus scrumhalf Richard Webber also had a good game.

For the Blouskool hooker Gerhard Kloppers and lock Jevaunne van der Merwe tried bravely.

After its win over Witteberg Voortrekker are still top of the Griffons log with 35 points. The Harmony Sports Academy does not take part in the league but the league winner will play against the Academy in a challenge match after the league has ended.

Early in the match the Trekkers lost their flyhalf Stephan Bothma with an injury. Fullback Hoffman Maritz of Voortrekker scored an outstanding try. He started a counterattack from his own 22 and dummied his way to the goal-line./

Trekkers loose forwards, Jannie van der Berg, RJ Liebenberg (captain) and Barend la Grange did well as usual. Up front they had much help from prop Ewald van der Westhuizen. Amongst the backs centre JP Oosthuizen can feel satisfied with his performance.

The young Witteberg side showed that in the next two years they are certainly going to be a force in the league. Even though Trekkers won convincingly, they had to work hard for their victory. For the losers flyhalf Gerhard Oosthuizen did well.
