Framesby win top match

Tue, 19 Aug 2008 17:59

Framesby ran out deserved winners on a day that produced some excellent running rugby and skilled handling, beating Die Brandwag of Uitenhage 33-16.

The first converted try of the match was scored about 20 minutes into the game by Framesby.  Brandwag answered immediately after that with an unconverted try of their own.  Framesby then ran in two more converted tries after impressive handling.

With the half-time score on 21-5 it seemed as if a runaway victory to Framesby was on the cards, but Die Brandwag, through some especially strong work by their forwards, managed to keep the second half quite even (12-11), with Framesby scoring two more tries (one converted) and Die Brandwag scoring another well worked backline try, a penalty and a drop goal.

The referee on the day remarked on the good discipline displayed by both teams.  Both Framesby and Brandwag will depart on Monday 18 August to George to represent the Eastern Province in the semi-finals of “Die Burger” rugby competition for high schools.  These matches will be played at Outeniqua Park against Outeniqua and Oudtshoorn High respectively.  The finals of this competition will be played on Saturday 23 August in the Western Cape.
