Battle of Brookside: Villagers school Sevens

The 41st Villager Sevens, such a popular event, will take place at the club in Claremont on Friday, 4 September 2009.

In all 32 teams will be taking part -  Wynberg, who hold the title,  SACS, Bishops, Rondebosch, Table View, Groote Schuur, Violets, Jan Van Riebeeck, Lagunya, Fish Hoek, Bergvliet, Tygerberg, Northerns, Westerford, Zwaanswyk, JAG Academy, Reddam, Muizenberg, Temperance, Langa, Milnerton, Drakenstein Youth, DF Malan, Excelsior, Livingstone, Rhodes High, Voortrekker and Spine Road.

The tournament starts at 14.00 and will end roughly at 20.30. After playing the first round matches, teams split in to two separate competitions, running simultaneously on all three of the rugby fields.

*The Trophy Competitions - for the 16 successful teams after the first round of games.

*The Plate competition - for the remaining 16 teams after the first round.

Every team is assured of playing a minimum of two matches.

Miles O'Brien is again the tournament director and Nicholas Bryant is once again the Sevens General Manager.

At the close, former Protea cricket hero, Brian Macmillan,  be presenting the event winners and all runners-up with super prizes and awards. Sportsman’s Warehouse is once again our headline sponsors, and Puma are providing the prizes.
