Banking giants, First National Bank (FNB), have been quick to respond to Springbok flyhalf Morné Steyn's recent kicking prowess; signing his kicking coach - Vlok Cilliers - for their latest innovative sponsorship.
A brand-new initiative, 'FNB Classic Kicking with Vlok Cilliers', was launched by FNB Head of Sponsorships and Events, Francois Pienaar, in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Of course, Cilliers is the professional coach of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union and is also the 'kicking force' behind the coaching clinic.
Former Bok Cilliers has coached several great kickers like Morné Steyn (the current Bok flyhalf), Derick Hougaard, Francois Brummer, Burton Francis, Zane Kirchner and even World Cup-winning scrumhalf, Fourie du Preez.
"Our Springbok flyhalf Morné Steyn, has probably been my biggest success as a kicking coach, especially if you consider the fact that he wasn't even his first team's first-choice kicker at school," explained Cilliers.
"Since then he has developed his kicking skills to be one of the best kickers in the world, and was subsequently named the Blue Bulls' Player of the Year for 2009."
Pienaar, meanwhile, said: "'FNB Classic Kicking with Vlok Cilliers' will add a lot of value to FNB's existing sponsorships such as the FNB Rugby Classic Clashes and the FNB Varsity Cup, respectively.
"FNB recognises the role that rugby plays in nation building, and for this reason, we at FNB endeavour to support and foster the development of the game and the talent it attracts. The FNB Classic Kicking coaching clinic will in future ensure that we have more match-winners like Morné Steyn. Kicking specialists like Vlok Cilliers, Braam van Straaten, Louis Koen and skills coach Blikkies Groenewald will all be involved to give their expert opinions and analysis to all the participants."
Cilliers added: "FNB Classic Kicking will be limited to 150 kickers only to ensure individual attention. It will be open for any high school rugby player aged between 14 and 19 years of age.
"The clinic will take place in Pretoria at Loftus Versfeld's B, C and D fields in Pretoria on Saturday, November 21, 2009. The total cost to participate in the event will be R1000 per entrant, which includes the player's registration fee, lunch at Trademarx Restaurant, T-shirt, cap, and a Surekick set which includes a DVD on all the various styles and techniques of kicking, a rugby ball, kicking tee, a ball pump and a gauge."
FNB has invested more than R50-million in the game of rugby since 2001, with the bank enjoying a rugby partnership with more than 80 schools countrywide through the FNB Rugby Classic Clashes, FNB Easter Rugby Festivals, FNB Varsity Cup and, now, 'FNB Classic Kicking with Vlok Cilliers'.
For bookings, contact Vlok Cilliers by emailing vlok@bluebull.co.za or phoning 082 822 0077. Bookings should be made by Monday, November 16.
