Middelburg HS victorious in Vryheid

Middelburg HS spoilt Hoërskool Pionier's party in Vryheid on Saturday - defeating them 21-17 in the final of the cup competition of the second leg of the @lantic Sevens tournament.
The victors surprised their hosts, after it looked like Pionier were going to walk away with the title. Middelburg, however, were full value for their victory.
Earlier, Pionier thrashed Richardsbaai II (59-0), Vryheid Landbou (71-0) and Dundee (45-5) in their three pool games. They had to work a bit harder in their semifinal clash against Weston, but managed to came out on top 19-7.
Middelburg HS defeated Pionier II 12-5 in their first pool match, before going on to thrash Newcastle (55-7) and Greytown (19-5), and they drew their semifinal with Sarel Cilliers. It was, however, the eventual champions who went through in the end.
Meanwhile, Middelburg HS's second stringers won the Plate competition by beating Vryheid HS 31-5 in the final. Suid-Natal won the Bowl competition, thanks to a victory of 21-0 over Wilgerivier. Richardsbaai defeated Oosterland 27-0 in the final of the Shield competition.
The Player of the Tournament was Ruan Bernard of Pionier in Vryheid and he will be part of the @lantic Invitational side that will participate in the Trustco Nambia Sevens in September.
