2010 Craven Week draw announced

Wed, 17 Feb 2010 09:11

General from Craven Week 2009

The 2010 Coca-Cola Craven Week will be hosted in Welkom, from June 28 until July 3, and fixtures for the first two days have been confirmed.

All the matches will be played at the North West Stadium in Welkom - the home of the Griffons Rugby Union, who used to be known as the 'Purple People Eaters'.

The fixtures for the first two days (the Monday and Tuesday) of the tournament have already been finalised, with the rest to follow in due course.

The hosts, the Griffons, will lock horns with Eastern Province Country Districts in the main match on the first day. The team from the Northern Free State will have to work hard in this match if they want to upset the Men from the North East Cape.

Last year's unofficial champions, Western Province - who have a proud Craven Week history, have a tough match on the first day, facing the Lions at 14.30 in the curtain-raiser for the main match; between the Griffons and EPCD.

The other finalists at last year's edition in East London, Free State, will play Border in the main match on the second day. Border finished last year's Craven Week unbeaten.

The initial 2010 Craven Week fixtures:

Monday, June 28 - Day One:
09.20 - Border Country Districts v Namibia
10.40 - Boland v Limpopo Blue Bulls
12.00 - Eastern Province v Blue Bulls
13.30 - Opening Ceremony
14.30 - Western Province v Lions
15.50 - Griffons v Eastern Province Country Districts

Tuesday, June 29 - Day Two:
10.10 - Zimbabwe v Griqualand West Country Districts
11.30 - Valke v Griqualand West
12.50 - SWD v Pumas
14.10 - KwaZulu-Natal v Leopards
15.30 - Free State v Border
