Villagers Sevens
The 2010 schools season in the Western Province will end for many with the prestigious Villager Sevens on Friday 3 September.
There will be 32 teams from various schools across the Cape Town area and surrounds to take part in the 42nd Villager School Sevens Tournament.
The event kicks off at 14.00, and 16 matches will be played deciding who takes part in the Trophy Tournament (16 Winning Teams in Round 1) and who moves onto the Plate Section (16 Losing Teams in Round 1).
Teams consist of seven players and three reserves. Matches are played seven minutes each way, with a minute's break in-between. The final is 10 minutes each way. All matches which result in draw, will move onto Sudden Death. Spells will last 5 minutes each way until a team scores, resulting in the winner.
The 32 teams are: Langa Youth Club, JAG Academy, Reddam House, The JAG Barbarians, Bishops (Diocesan College), Reddam College - Atlantic
Seaboard, Milnerton, Wynberg, SACS, Fish Hoek, DF Malan, Rondebosch, Table View, Drakenstein Youth Club, Groote Schuur, Tygerberg, Durbanville, JAG Excelsior, American International School of Cape Town, Bergvliet, Westerford, Lagunya Youth Club, Voortrekker, Zwaanswyk, Wynberg B, SACS B, Bishops B, Rondebosch B, Temperance Youth Club, Jan van Riebeeck, Plumstead, Table View B.
Last year's Trophy Winners - Bishops (Diocesan College) will be looking to defend their crown, having won it for the 20th time in 41 years in 2009.
The tournament was founded in 1968 by Dave Stewart and John Gainsford, who were backed by Logans Sportsmans Warehouse since its inception. The first match was played in 1969. And, for 42 years, the Villager - Sportsmans Warehouse union has grown from strength to strength.
The matches are played across all three (A, B and C) of the Villager Football Club fields. Fields close progressively through the day, finally to a
point where all of the finals are played on the A Field.
Food and drink are provided by the Villager Football Club Bar (over 18's only) and "The Brooksider" will be whipping up fast & delicious pub grub (slap-chips, hot-dogs, boerewors rolls, burgers and plenty more). Coke and Powerade will be fuelling the players and spectators. Spur Steak Ranches, Butlers Pizza and Pronto Coffee will be providing food outlets, and a coffee station on the night as well.
Limited secure parking is available on the Claremont Public School fields at R10 per car.
We look forward to seeing you supporting you school, and our up and coming rugby youth on the night... and witnessing this awesome brand of quick, skillful rugby.
Entry is R10 per person. You will receive a programme at the gate or from the announcers' caravan.
