Noord-Kaap are the Champions

Sat, 28 Aug 2010 15:17

Noord-Kaap's leader, Herman van Niekerk

Noord-Kaap beat Hentie Cilliers 24-3 in Bloemfontein on Saturday in the final of the KOVSIE/Volksblad Central Region league.

What a game it was!

The Kimberley boys dominated the first half with their superior forwards. Again it was fetcher flank Hendrik du Plessis who frustrated the Virginia players at the breakdowns. Du Plessis played a huge part in each of his team's three tries during the first half.

The Noord-Kaap pack rucked and counter rucked like men possessed and saw how tries were scored by hooker Gummie Roux, scrummie Zane le Roux and an outstanding Cobus Cohn at loosehead. Flyhalf Giahn Cloete converted two tries into the strong wind.

The second half saw Henties making a number of changes - using their very capable Harmony Sports School resources. They could not keep Northerns on hold either, but provided some resistance.

The Noord-Kaap fullback went over for a well-worked try, which Cloete converted for the final score of 24-3.

Noord-Kaap can now boast to be the Rugby Kings of the Central Region of SA, after beating the best in Griffons, Griquas, Free State.
