Grey College in easy victory

Mon, 21 Apr 2008 13:37

Grey College stamped their authority as Bloemfontein’s the premier rugby school when they thrashed Jim Fouché 61-10 at their home ground in Bloemfontein.

The home side built up a 35-3 lead at the break. Jim Fouché defeated Paarl Boys' High earlier and it had been expected that they would keep Grey College at bay for longer in the match.

A brilliant display by Grey College’s forwards however paved the way for a comfortable victory. The centre pairing of François Venter and Piet Lindeque were the best players in Grey's backline, while their captain and eighthman, Adriaan Theisinger led his team from the front.  Tokkie Holtzhausen, inside centre of Jim Fouché, tackled like a man possessed and was his team's best player on the day.

Sand du Plessis beat Hoërskool Bloemfontein 39-0 in their encounter in Bloemfontein. Sannies didn't convince but still managed to secure a convincing victory.

In the second match at Grey College’s A-field Louis Botha beat Fichardtpark 36-10. The victors’ SA Schools player, Moekoa Bolofo, scored a hat trick of tries in the match. He captains the team from hooker.

President Steyn beat St Andrew's 37-10 while Cherries and Brandfort also had big wins.
