Sanix World Rugby Youth Invitational Tournament 2008

Glenwood High School of Durban are South Africa's representatives at the ninth Sanix World Rugby Youth Invitational Tournament which this year will be held over Golden Week from 29 April to 5 May 2008 at the Global Arena in Fukuoka, Kyushu.

Eight Japanese high schools and eight overseas schools will form 4 pools of 4 teams.

The eight local schools include the four semifinalists from the 2007~8, 87th National High School Championship, that is, Higashi Fukuoka, Fushimi, Toin and Nagasaki Hokuyodai along with the successful qualifying team for the tournament and teams put forward by Kyushu RFU.

This annual tournament has been running since 2000 in its present form and it successfully brings together a wide variety of rugby styles and cultures. Westfields Sports High School won the event last year representing Australia when they beat Higashi Fukuoka 36-19 in the final, though they will not be returning to defend their title this year.

Gisborne Boys High is the new New Zealand school this year replacing Christchurch Boys High. The other seven overseas schools are: Sinclair Secondary School (Canada), Tarbes (France), St Benedict’s School (England), Gyeong San HS (Korea), St Edmund’s College, Canberra (Australia), Glenwood, Ratu Kadavulevu School (Fiji). The eight local schools are: Ryutsu Keizai University HS Kashiwa (Chiba), Toin Gakuen HS (Kanagawa), Fushimi Technical HS (Kyoto), Josho Keiko Gakuen HS (Osaka), Onomichi HS (Hiroshima), Nagasaki Hokuyodai HS (Nagasaki), Saga Technical HS (Saga) and Higashi Fukuoka HS (Fukuoka).

The Pools are as follows:

Pool A: Gyeong San , St Edmund’s, Onomichi,  Higashi Fukuoka

Pool B: Gisborne, Ratu Kadavulevu, Nagasaki Hokuyodai, Josho Keiko Gakuen 

Pool C: Sinclair , Tarbes (France), Toin Gakuen, Saga

Pool D: St Benedict’s, Glenwood, Ryutsu Keizai, Fushimi
