FNB Top 20 - 14 June

Tue, 14 Jun 2005 16:05

Jostling in the lower half

Several of the top schools did not play as Craven Week warm-ups make demands on teams but there ere still some interesting results.

Pretoria Boys' High played Affies for the 100th time and won for the 40th time.

St Andrew's had an anticlimax match, which may well have been predictable. They became the first team to beat Grey PE this year and then went up to Queenstown and lost.

Maritzburg College won their FNB Classic Clash with Hilton.

Things are tight in the lower half of the table and sorting out is difficult indeed. They are after all great sides.

Consonant with our policy of rewarding teams which are playing more matches we move Paul Roos and Paarl Boys' High up this week.

The FNB Top 20 for 14 June is:

1. Monument
2. Paarl Gim
3. Grey PE
4. Affies
5. Paul Roos
6. Paarl Boys' High
7. Grey Bloem
8. Outeniqua
9. HTS Middelburg
10. Nelspruit
11. Daniël Pienaar
12. Boland Landbou
13. Florida
14. Bishops, Queen's
16. Pretoria Boys' High
17. Waterkloof
18. St Andrew's
19. Kearsney
20. Maritzburg College, Westville

Our lone unbeaten side in contention for the FNB Top 20, Rustenburg, bit the dust against Potchefstroom Volkies on Saturday. Of the others we had bubbling beneath Selborne beat Port Rex and  Westville had a big win over DHS while Strand and Diamantveld did not play.

Our contenders then are Strand, Glenwood, Hilton, Diamantveld and Rustenburg, and isn't it good to see Port Natal, once such a powerhouse in Natal schools rugby, having a good surge?
