Cowan v Cowan: and the winner is...

Fri, 18 Jul 2008 13:14

All Blacks scrumhalf Jimmy Cowan will continue his affinity with the reserve bench, this time at provincial level.

Cowan will watch from the bench when Southland play Canterbury in a pre-season match in Christchurch on Saturday, with the starting No.9 jersey going to his younger brother Scott.

Having been among the All Blacks reserves through all five tests this year so far - and having played in just three of them for a total of 39 minutes of action - the national selectors released Cowan for some extra game time this weekend.

Other All Blacks in club action include Waikato's Stephen Donald, Richard Kahui, Sione Lauaki and Kevin O'Neill - who all came through unscathed from their province's pre-season fixture against Japanese club team Suntory on Thursday.

Flank Chris Masoe and prop Neemia Tialata were to play for Wellington against Otago on Friday, while Anthony Tuitavake was to line up for North Harbour against Bay of Plenty in Tauranga.
