Nutbrown ready to blow off steam

Tue, 02 Sep 2008 17:40

Bay Of Plenty announced on Tuesday that scrumhalf Jamie Nutbrown has been granted an early release from his contract and has left the Air New Zealand Cup team to join Welsh outfit Ospreys.

Nutbrown's last game for the Steamers in the Air New Zealand Cup will be against Otago this Friday, September 5 at Baypark, Mount Maunganui.

Nutbrown will then depart to take up his new contract.

The scrumhalf was contracted until the end of 2008 but was reluctantly granted an early release in return for his commitment and loyalty to the Bay of Plenty.

Nutbrown has been a regular feature in both the Bay of Plenty Steamers and Chiefs since shifting north from Canterbury at the start of 2006. Nutbrown has played 28 times for the Bay, captaining the Bay on four occasions, recording four wins.

"Jamie is an exceptional person, team member and rugby player and we are grateful to him for the contribution he has made to Bay rugby," Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Curragh told the official Bay of Plenty website.

"We are obviously disappointed to lose Jamie at this time and the release fee paid is reflective of our reluctance to let him go."

"The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union are very mindful of ensuring players honour contractual obligations, however upon considering all factors, it was agreed that an early release was warranted."
