Same again for ANZ Cup

The Air New Zealand Cup will keep its current format for another year after a pivotal meeting was held at the New Zealand Rugby Union. Members of the 14 unions spent the day hammering out whether the competition should be changed. Some of the bigger unions are unhappy with the lack of competition and the quality of some sides involved, but the show will go on before a full review after next season. Auckland CEO Andy Dalton said they spent nearly four hours discussing the format. "All 14 provincial unions have agreed to carry on with the competition as structured for 2007, but we recognised that there are some issues around the competition," Dalton told One Sport. "It was a pretty robust discussion and I think the outcome is the right one that we carry on this year and we look forward to the full review next year." Southland chief Roger Clark said the meeting was productive. "One of the things we discussed today was that we all have to work together to make sure we get the outcomes that are best for NZ rugby," said Clarke. The rugby union says it will also be looking at how to boost crowds at matches and in front of the TV.
