Phillips spends night in jail

Fri, 17 Jul 2009 12:51

British & Irish Lions and Welsh scrumhalf Mike Phillips was released on bail on Friday after being arrested on Thursday night following an alleged altercation with a taxi driver in Cardiff.

The Welsh star was taken from his home in Cardiff Bay to Barry Police Station for questioning by officers from South Wales Police.

Phillips was picked up at 18.30 on Thursday for an alleged incident which happened on July 7, three days after the Lions' final Test against the Springboks in South Africa.

He was released on 14 days bail after spending the night behind bars.

"There is nothing in the allegation. Mike Phillips has been co-operating with the police, " his agent, former England and Lions prop Mike Burton told Wales Online.
