Melck makes merry way to Munster

Tue, 26 Aug 2008 19:32

Western Province (WP) loose forward Justin Melck has been loaned to Irish-based provincial union Munster for the next two months.

Melck, who has mostly featured off the bench for WP during this years' Currie Cup, will leave for Ireland this week.

Munster are the 2008 Heineken Cup champions and will host London Irish in a pre-season friendly on Friday before playing their Magners League opener against Edinburgh at Murrayfield on Friday, September 5.

Melck has earned 45 WP caps since his debut in the 2004 Vodacom Cup, and has proved fairly versatile in the back row. The former Rondebosch Boys learner made his Stormers Super 14 debut in 2006 under then coach Kobus van der Merwe, graduating into a regular staring berth at No.8.

Melck was however unable to find a place in the 2008 Stormers squad after recovering from a knee injury sustained late in the 2007 season.

All is not lost though as the WP Springbok contingent - which includes loose forwards Schalk Burger and Luke Watson - will return for provincial duty in time for the Currie Cup clash against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein next week.

What do you make of Bok coach Peter de Villiers's biblical statements?
He obviously knows the Bible well
He is just deflecting attention away from his lack of coaching knowledge
He should leaves his sermons for the dressing room
