Griquas get Geel for Uys

Thu, 04 Sep 2008 13:55

The Griquas have announced just one change to their starting XV for this weekend's 'minnows' Currie Cup clash against the Boland Cavaliers in Kimberley.

With the Griquas (14 points) and the Cavaliers (13 points) in sixth and eighth position respectively, this bottom-of-the-log clash will give the hosts a good chance of securing just their third win of the season.

Barry Geel will replace injured outside-centre Lafras Uys in the Griquas starting line-up, marking the only change to the starting XV that overwhelmed fellow competition strugglers - the Falcons - in Kimberley a fortnight ago.

Utility back Naas Olivier, who got injured during his Griquas debut against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein last month, has been named among the replacements for Saturday's match.

Olivier will be joined on the bench by utility back Jaco Bekker.

Griquas: 15 Riaan Viljoen, 14 Bjorn Basson, 13 Barry Geel, 12 Herkie Kruger, 11 MJ Mentz, 10 Conrad Barnard, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Heinrich Stride, 7 Stephan Gerber, 6 Gareth Krause (captain), 5 Brendon Snyman, 4 Wayne van Heerden, 3 Bees Roux, 2 Hans van Dyk, 1 Regardt Dreyer.
Replacements: 16 James van der Walt, 17 Ruaan du Preez, 18 Rohan Kitshoff, 19 Jacques Lombaard, 20 Tobie Botes, 21 Jaco Bekker, 22 Naas Olivier.

Date: Saturday, September 6
Venue: Absa Park, Kimberley
Kick-off: 17.00 (15.00 GMT)
Referee: Deon van Blommestein
Touch judges: Jaco Peyper, Cobus Wessels
