And SARU's final answer is...Wellington

Sat, 27 Sep 2008 12:49

The South African Rugby Union (SARU) have confirmed that the Currie Cup fixture between Boland and Western Province (WP) on Saturday will take place in Wellington as scheduled, following a favourable pitch inspection on Saturday morning.

Due to the shocking drainage at Boland Stadium after heavy rains, disgruntled visiting unions prompted SARU to move the fixture to Newlands Stadium, following a statement by them late on Friday afternoon.

SARU then issued another statement on Friday evening saying the fixture would in fact take place in Wellington as scheduled, pending a pitch inspection by match referee Christie du Preez on Saturday morning.

Du Preez has thus ruled that the Boland Stadium field in Wellington does not constitute a danger to player safety, and that the Cavaliers' Currie Cup match with WP will go ahead as scheduled at 15.00 (13.00 GMT) on Saturday.
