Two Bulls to miss feast of the Falcons

Mon, 29 Sep 2008 09:16

The Blue Bulls are set to be without the services of World Cup-winning wing Akona Ndungane and powerful prop Rayno Gerber when they complete their Currie Cup league fixtures against the Falcons at Loftus Versfeld on Friday.

Ndungane and Gerber both picked up injuries in the 58-22 win over Griquas in Kimberley last Friday and are almost certain to be ruled out of the encounter with the Falcons.

The Bulls have already qualified for the semifinals, where they have home ground advantage, and will be looking to keep the pressure up on the table-topping Sharks with another big win.

The Bulls have a chance to finish on top of the standings if the Sharks stumble against Griquas this coming weekend.

However, with the wealth of talent at his disposal and the poor quality of the opposition, Bulls coach Frans Ludeke would not be too concerned if Ndungane and Gerber sit out this week.

Bulls team doctor, Org Strauss, confirmed that Ndungane injured his groin and Gerber picked up an Achilles injury against Griquas.

"At this stage these are the only injuries following the Griquas match and a full assessment of Akona and Rayno's injuries will be made [later], but I assume they will be out for at least one week."

John Mametsa and Rocco Jansen are the other players in the Bulls' Currie Cup group that can play on the wing, while Werner Kruger and Ruan Vermeulen can fill Gerber's shoes at tighthead.
