Nokwe scores four as Cheetahs win

Sat, 22 Aug 2009 17:59

The Springbok and Free State Cheetahs wing Jongi Nokwe ran in four tries on Saturday as his team recorded a comfortable 59-8 win over the Boland Cavaliers in their Currie Cup Round Seven match in Bloemfontein.

In the process Free State recorded their third win in the Premier Division.

Nokwe also had a big hand in Hennie Daniller's second try, when he run down the left-hand touchline and chipped inside for Daniller  who grabbed the ball with one hand for a spectacular try.

The home side's hooker and captain Adriaan Strauss had a stormer of a match and mostly kept a few Bolanders busy with ball under the arm.

Jacques-Louis Potgieter, flyhalf, along with Daniller attacked their opponents' defence with intent and the fullback frequently joined the line.

The bonus point was secured in the 38th minute when Frans Viljoen (flank) dived over.

Both Boland's hooker Clement Lewis and reserve flank Frikkie Spies spent time in the sin bin. Wiaan de Preez's try from a line-out was made easier with Boland being one man short at the time.

The home side's line-outs were poor on the day and they lost plenty of ball from the set phase.
