Second time lucky for the Pumas?

Thu, 26 Aug 2010 13:00

Captain Hannes Franklin and coach Jimmy Stonehouse (c) Gallo

The Pumas have stuck with the same starting XV that did battle against the Lions last week, for their Currie Cup encounter with the Blue Bulls in Nelspruit on Friday.

Last weekend the Pumas narrowly missed out on achieving a massive upset against the Golden Lions, when they went down 33-30 - despite being camped on the Lions tryline in the dying minutes of the match.

All credit must go to Jimmy Stonehouse's team for their bravery to back themselves and go for the win, instead of kicking a penalty to seal a draw when time was up on the clock.

The unchanged starting line-up will take heart from the last match as they front up to the defending Currie Cup champions, the Bulls.

There is one change to then bench, where Stonehouse has opted for a five-two split, with former Bulls Under-21 lock-cum-flank Eduan van der Walt taking over from wing Duwayne Smart.

Pumas: 15 Nicky Kritzinger, 14 Vainon Willis, 13 Shaun Venter, 12 Tian Meyer, 11 Allistair Kettledas, 10 Elgar Watts, 9 Jacques Coetzee, 8 Christo le Roux, 7 Torsten van Jaarsveld, 6 Corné Steenkamp, 5 Marius Coetzer, 4 Andries Kruger, 3 Ashley Buys, 2 Hannes Franklin (captain), 1 Ronnie Uys.
Replacements: 16 Dee-Jay Terblanche, 17 Dawie Steyn, 18 Willem Serfontein, 19 Eduan van der Walt, 20 Ricardo Croy, 21 Ashwin Scott, 22 Jaco Bouwer.
