In trouble: Bulls prop Bees Roux
Blue Bulls prop Bees Roux has reportedly been arrested for beating a Pretoria metro police officer to death in the early hours on Friday.
"I believe there was an incident where a policeman died, and I know [he] was involved in the incident. How he was involved I don't know yet, I can't tell you," said Roux's attorney, Ernst Serfontein.
An advocate was consulting the player at the Sunnyside police station on Friday morning and it is possible he will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court later in the day, or on Monday.
Police have opened a case of murder, but would not immediately confirm that a Blue Bulls player committed the assault.
However, the Blue Bulls released a statement about the incident.
"It has come to the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd's attention that Bees Roux has allegedly been involved in an incident involving a metro policeman last night in Pretoria," read a statement from Blue Bulls High Performance Manager, Ian Schwartz.
"We do not have any factual information at this stage, but have been informed that the policeman passed away.
"We would like to express our sincerest condolences to the relatives of the deceased.
"We are not in a position to make any further comments in this regard," the statement concluded.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics found the critically injured police officer lying in the middle of Schoeman Street.
The officer died moments later of extensive injuries.
Roux was not included in the latest Blue Bulls squad, to play the Pumas in a Currie Cup match at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Friday.
