Meanwhile, the Leopards added to the Blue Bulls' misery with a fine 51-26 at Loftus Versfeld that consigned the Bulls to their sixth loss in seven matches, while the Leopards moved to sixth on the log.

The Griffons smashed the Welwitchias 101-0  in a one-sided, 15-try massacre at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek.

All Saturday's scores and scorers!

Western Province 24-23 Griquas

The opening 10 minutes was a tense affair with both sides visiting each other's 22 without reward but it was the home side who claimed first blood, when flank Janco Venter burst through a maul to score the opening try with flyhalf Scott van Breda converting to hand the hosts a seven-point advantage.

Griquas hit back shortly thereafter when flyhalf Andre Swarts slotted his first of three penalties of the afternoon but van Breda restored the seven-point lead with a penalty of his own. A wonderful breakaway try from flank Jonathan Janse van Rensburg brought the scores level at 10-all, as Swarts converted the try.

Griquas then took the lead for the first time in the match as Swarts landed his second penalty on the stroke of half-time to give the visitors a slender three-point lead at the break.

But the visitors suffered a setback early in the second half when flank Wendal Wehr was sent to the sin-bin for 10 minutes. WP used the one-man advantage well and scored their second try through hooker Chad Solomon, after a strong maul from the resultant penalty. Van Breda added the extra two points to give his side a valuable four-point advantage.

Swarts brought Griquas to within one point of their hosts with his third penalty of the day but a wonderful finish from right-wing Khanyo Ngcukana put the hosts eight-points up midway through the second stanza as Van Breda slotted the conversion.

But Griquas ensured a tense final 10-minutes as their scrumhalf, Tiaan Dorfling scored a wonderful try, which Swarts converted to leave the teams battling it out with just a point separating them. WP held firm to secure their home victory and the four points while Griquas walked away with a single point for losing within seven points.

Blue Bulls 26-51 Leopards

The Blue Bulls have endured a miserable season, winning just a single match, while the Leopards had won three of their six matches.

The visitors outscored the Blue Bulls six tries to four while fullback Rhyno Smith ended with a personal tally of 21 points, as he slotted six conversions and three penalties.

The Leopards opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute when inside centre Henko Marais went over for a converted try.

The Bulls struck back almost immediately when No.8 Hanro Liebenberg crashed over for a converted score. But the Leopards had their tails up and they soon reasserted their dominance when their No.8 Jeandre Rudolph crossed for a converted try in the 19th minute.

The Blue Bulls managed to level the scores in the 26th minute when flyhalf Joshua Stander scored and converted his own try to make the score 14-14. But it was to be as close as the Bulls came and the Leopards went to the break holding a 24-14 lead after a converted try from flank Marno Redelinghuys and a Smith penalty.

The second half was all one way traffic as the Leopards ran in further tries from Marais, outside centre Johan Deysel and replacement hooker Dane van der Westhuyzen while Smith slotted two more penalties.

The Bulls could only respond with tries from flank Renaldo Bothma and replacement centre Kurt Webster.

Golden Lions XV 35-35 EP Kings

Lock Juan Jonck crashed over in the 80th minute to level the scores while EP Kings' flyhalf Garrick Mattheus missed his conversion which would have given the Kings an impressive come from behind victory.

Mattheus and his opposite number Shaun Reynolds both ended with 15 points apiece, courtesy of three conversions and three penalties while both teams recorded four tries in an entertaining clash. The Kings opened the scoring thanks to an early Mattheus penalty before the Golden Lions grabbed the first try of the match courtesy of a try from lock Bobby de Wee.

But the visitors took the lead once again when outside centre Somila Jho scored a converted try. However, the Lions struck back two minutes later when No.8 Ruaan Lerm dotted down for a converted score.

Mattheus and Reynolds traded penalties before Reynolds' second penalty of the half saw the hosts reach the break leading 20-13.

Reynolds extended the lead soon after the restart with his third penalty before the EP Kings fought their way back into the match when they were awarded a penalty try. Mattheus levelled the scores with a 57th minute penalty but the Golden Lions were soon back in the lead when hooker Ramone Samuels barged his way over for an unconverted try.

The topsy-turvy nature of the match continued as the Kings regained the lead once again when replacement hooker Gregory Jackson scored a converted try in the 69th minute. The Golden Lions must have thought that they had wrapped the match up when scrumhalf Ricky Schroeder nipped over for a converted try in the 73rd minute but the Kings had the last laugh in the contest.

Welwitchias 0-101 Griffons

The demolition job was completed by half-time, with the visitors running off the park for a glass of orange juice with 54 points already on the board but the effort could easily have been undone with a loss of concentration. This was not to be as the Griffons ran in a further seven tries without reply to complete the massacre.

Flyhalf George Whitehead missed just two kicks at goal, completing 13 conversions on a day of what seemed like kicking practice for the man from Welkom.

The Griffons opened the scoring as early as the eighth minute when right wing Selvyn Davids dashed over in the corner. The visitors scored another two converted tries and were sitting pretty with a 19-point lead midway through the first half with No.8 Dirk Grobbelaar and left wing Warren Williams dotting down for their first tries.

Tertius Maarman then grabbed his first try as the fullback joined the line well before hooker Neil Rautenbach barged his way over the line. Davids then raced in for his second try of the afternoon and with Whitehead converting, the Griffons were out of sight with a 40-point lead.

Maarman and Grobbelaar crossed the whitewash again before the half was out, as the Griffons led 54-0 at half-time.

Despite a whole host of substitutions by both sides in the second stanza, the one-way traffic continued and the Griffons were back into scoring mode just five minutes into the second period when loosehead prop Daniel van der Merwe rumbled over the line.

Williams crossed the line twice more to seal his hat-trick midway through the second half and the visitors could smell the century-mark on the wind and pushed hard.

The men from Welkom crossed the line four more times in the final nine minutes through replacements Lohan Lubbe and De Wet Kruger while flank Boela Venter finished off the afternoon with his brace of tries.

Scorers:

For the Griffons:

Tries: Williams 3, Venter 2, Grobbelaar 2, Davids 2, Maarman 2, van der Merwe, Kruger, Lubbe, Rautenbach
