The Sharks have also lost the services of Springbok lock Stephan Lewies for the match. Lewies is still struggling with a hamstring injury and he is replaced by Ruan Botha.

The match against the Cheetahs was due to be Lewies' first after a lengthy lay-off.

Jean Deysel's place on the bench is taken by Khaya Majola. Deysel is suffering from a hip flexor strain.

The good news for the Sharks is that the experienced scrumhalf Michael Claassens has been passed fit and will wear the No.20 jersey.
